Autosurfs 12by12Daily and 13DailyPro announce SLIGHT modifications to their payout terms

Now it's quite possible that things are exactly as they seem! On the other hand perhaps not!

THE FACTS:

12by12Daily: After getting behind in both surfing payouts AND referral commissions, Dave Cannard put out a message of explanation that this was NOT a change of terms merely a reaffirmation that there is some leeway in the terms and they are NOT a guarantee. Nevertheless, the wording has been changed to 'on or about' 7 working days. As an outcome of this situation, the account maximum has been increased to $12k from $6K. Less than 24 hours after that, it is now possible to have 3 upgrades rather than 2....

13DailyPro: Used to pay within 5 working days. They would make payment on Friday for those spends that became due Saturday and Sunday. They gave a whole bunch of justification why they now will pay over 7 days and actually make payments of the week-ends.

OUR TAKE:
We are naturally suspicious! Those FACTS can and will be interpreted by many in many ways. We briefly skimmed various forums today and very few are raising alarm bells. However, 1 + 1 usually equals 2, even in the wacky world of Pay4Surf. Delayed payouts plus two quick modifications that would cause an influx of NEW cash spell POTENTIAL cashflow problems to us. 12by12Daily has been growing but perhaps not quickly enough to supply sufficient income to cover liabilities... Just a thought!

The same interpretation could be made for 13DailyPro. They would have to have enough excess cash on Friday to pay 3 days. On the other hand, it makes good sense to pay through the week-end to prevent backlogs.

THE STATS
As always, our job here is to arm you with up-to-date information so that you can make GOOD business decisions. In that vein, here is the latest Alexa data for 12by12Daily and 13DailyPro



You can see that BOTH 12by12 and 13DP seem quite healthy as far as traffic growth over the last month is concerned so maybe we are just being overly sensitive.

THE NEWCOMER
You will have noticed that we have added a 3rd program: AdSurfDaily to these stats! This is a relatively new program that is using the new model where a percentage of daily spends are calculated at midnight each day and distributed pro-rata to the previous day's surfers based on the number of ad units that they currently hold. Payments are made on each ad unit until 150% of the spend has been paid out. As you can see from the chart above, they came out of nowhere and have made tremendous inroads in their first month......

GoldNDaily is OldNAiling, 12by12Daily is UpNComing, 13DailyPro is BackNPaying!


All in all, we're glad that we didn't quit working the pay4surf programs a while back when it looked like the entire industry was heading down a slippery slope!

We can't pretend that it is ALL good news though! So, let's start off with the bad news:

GoldNDaily is VERY close to its last gasp. Sure, the site is still there going through the motions, however, the majority of members (if any at all) are receiving the advertised daily payout directly to their e-Gold account. Our own guess is that, quite apart from the admin being snowed under with corrupted member accounts that he is not able to physically, manually correct, the program has also run out of cash. Hence, few or no daily payouts. In the end, if the program closes, as we expect it will, we will only be out about $50.

Now the better news:

13 Daily Pro:
We recently made the decision to re-enter this program, even though we lost a few bucks when it 'reset' its database a couple of months back. So far, we are happy with out decision. In just a couple of days, we will have completed our first cycle. Surfing is smooth and all signs (forums and monitoring sites) are still positive.

And, finally, the BEST news:

12by12 Daily:
There were many detractors who said that after the rocky start and then the holding back of referral fees, that 12x12Daily wouldn't survive long. Well, it begins to look like they are all wrong! It's like when you stop banging your head against a brick wall!

Its feels GOOD...

There are, of course, still things happening in the autosurf world, but none of them concern us too much any more.... The big ones have gone and for our part, it is only 12by12 Daily that we are surfing daily. For their part, things are apparently completely back on track. We have received all payments due (within 24 hours of stated due dates too!).

Hopefully, they will keep going long enough to restore some faith in the industry.

Two more nails in the coffin of the Pay4Surf industry this week.

• First, AlienTrust announced that its sale to an interested party had fallen through. Although the excuse was that the new owner was refusing to guarantee either payments to existing members or the continuation of the program, the reality was that the existing business model did not generate enough funds to pay members.
  
  
• Within 24 hours of the AlienTrust bombshell, Lance Barron, the owner of NowDollar, despite protestations to the contrary just a week or so earlier, announced the closure and sale of his program to the very party who had eschewed it recently.
  

Of course, many autosurfs have come and gone in the last few weeks but these were two of the largest and most respected. There is now a HUGE credibility gap and many small players will now desert the playing field.

For us, the only program left that holds any promise is 12by12 Daily and for the meantime, this is the ONLY program left on our Recommended Pay4Surf Page. Although our strategy limited our losses in any of these programs, we have not made any real money in autosurfs for the last couple of months.

Fortunately, we still have our Top 5 programs listed in our $100 Cash Giveaway, all of which are paying and most of which have been around 12 months or longer.

AlienTrust has also been sold, quite likely to the same company!
So what?!

Here's our 2 cent's worth....

These two events will almost certainly forever change the face of the autosurf industry.

Why? Principally because the current model simply isn't working.. It cannot work, It is simply built on an unsound business model! Below is a portion of the message sent to AlertPayPro members within the last 24 hours:

The first topic to address, every current autosurf business model is flawed. Having a set percentage for affiliate earnings is this flaw. Unless autosurfs correct this flaw they will fail. As you may have noticed the maximum lifespan of an autosurf is approx 6 months, this is because paying a set percentage will cause the autosurf to instantly run in the red upon opening its doors. Selling a $5 advertising package will result in the owner paying $7.50 back. A $2.50 in the red from the first sale. A company can not operate in the red for long especially a company which sells their first item and is instantly in the red. Unless the company itself is making money it will eventually consume itself. Autosurfing could be the next major form of advertising for brand name companies. The potential is huge if the industry changes to a true affiliate and advertising network.

We largely agree with the above statement except that it ignores the claim, made by many pay4surfs, that they have external sources of funding. Harrolds Media make no secret that the reason that they are actually paying for surfing sites admittedly in trouble is that they want access to the membership base with money to spend. That IS the value of the surfing site and SOME (admittedly very few), have found a way to parlay that base into positive cashflow territory. StudioTraffic was the frontrunner in this area. Even though it eventually failed, it was due to poor decisions and management errors, NOT a flawed business model. Let's not forget that it ran for well over two years (4X the six months quoted by Harrolds)

What is for sure is that this revelation makes clear how tenuous the position of ALL existing autosurfs really is. Even those that genuinely have external funding sources are still dependent on new ongoing business (spends) for their very survival.

The new owners go on to explain how they have a NEW model that is superior to the old and will be the saviour of the industry:

How an autosurf should be run:
1. Take the amount of advertising dollars from the previous day. Divide that total among the number of advertising packages in circulation (subtract 5% for the administration.) That total will give the value of each advertising packages for that days surfing. ie. $10000 in advertising purchases comes in on a given day. There are currently 9000 advertising packages in circulation. $10000 divided by 9000 = $1.11 - 5% = $1.06 per advertising package. This is what each affiliate/advertiser will earn per advertising package that they own for surfing that day. So if an affiliate owns 1 advertising package they would have earned $1.06 for surfing that day. If they owned 10 advertising packages they would have earned $1.06 X 10 = $10.60 for surfing that day.

2. If an advertising package has a number of days limit then you may earn too much or too little by the time it expires. So advertising packages must have a dollar amount as the expiration date. Each advertising package will expire only after you have earned $7.50 from the $5.00 advertising package. Each individual advertising package will remain active until it has earned $2.50 PROFIT.

Harrolds Media is very magnanimously offering to single-handedly save the ENTIRE industry :

AlertPayPro is now under this new earnings system. This may take us up to three weeks to complete, we estimate much less time but we will not cross ourselves as the previous managment has by giving a date and not meeting it. We have also purchased another (most consider #1) autosurf and will be implementing the new model on that one as well. While we are willing to help other owners move/transition to the new system, we will not answer queries regarding this. Once all is completed on both of the new sites we have acquired we will then offer the new system on the open market.

Take notes, the autosurf industry is changing.

Harrolds Media Inc.,

To say that this message has stirred up a hornet's nest in various forums is to put things mildly. Pandora's box has definitely been opened. Here is a quote from Lance Barron, the owner of NowDollar, who has been implicated by some in nefarious ways of being a key participant in Harrolds Media:

#1. I do not have anything to do with the operations of Harrolds Media INC. However, I do know the owner and have visited with him several time by phone. Our programming staff has also worked very close with his staff in development of a revolutionary advertising script.

#2. We have not missed a pay day in the 5+ months we have been in operation.

#3. The purchase of the NowDollar Program: We were in talks with Harrolds Media INC. about the purchase of all rights to the NowDollar Program. The mission of Harolds Media INC. was to purchase surf programs that were struggling and implement a business model that is profitable. Is short, they were looking to try and save the surfing industry. Because of the events of last night and today, Harrolds Media INC. is now backing away from this mission. I reviewed the business model, and it is sound. We will be adding this business model to our program in the future.

It is too early to say how this will all play out. It IS clear that thunderclouds are forming and there will be fewer players left standing when it is all over. There was never a better time to re-evaluate YOUR personal position in all this. You might want to examine some of the options that are NOT autosurf related

For our part, we are not ready to dismiss the ENTIRE industry! There is one glaring problem with this new scheme! It doesn't even begin to address the problem of being totally dependent on new incoming funds for outgoing payments. Sure, it does mean that programs will no longer have to pay out more than they take in, but most of them don't do this anyway, since you can't get blood from a stone and most admins do not put their own funds at risk. This is, in fact, the main reason that so many programs are stalled right now...

It does also mean that rates of return will likely be reduced. The problem will likely be compounded for existing programs like APP, AT and ND because members are not going to put in new money until things start to happen. Things won't start to happen until existing members put more money in....

Well, it seems that 'too much negativity' frightened Harrolds Media away. In a public apology, they retracted their offer to singlehandely save the autosurf industry! .

It seems that AlertPayPro and NowDollar are no longer on their shopping list............

How do you tell the good from the bad?

Many people are beginning to ask themselves:
"Can you REALLY make money in this crazy business, or are ALL programs doomed to failure?!"

The answer, of course, is YES (you CAN make money) and YES (ALL programs ARE doomed to failure from the outset!)

This might seem like a contradiction in terms but it really is not.

First, let's go through our list and see what happened this week:

ChoiceSurf: After dire warnings about closing the site on Monday if things did not improve, Clay, the admin, has been silent. We suspect that he has taken a leaf out of SurfTenDaily's playbook and will simply let the site stay on autopilot but simply making no payouts....

Surf4DailyCash: Decidely fell from grace this week. Their e-Gold account was value limited (restricted) and e-Gold flatly refused to remove the restriction. the Admin used this as an excuse to cancel ALL outstanding e-Gold spends and pending payouts and intends to continue with only AlertPay as an option. It is hard to believe that the program will survive with such a restricted base even if angry members are not able to bring the program down as they are vowing to do!

Well, it seems that we were prophetic. Since beginning to write this update on Friday, the site has been erased from the server. Info in various forums would seem to suggest that the admin resides in Pakistan. Once again, there are a few angry souls demanding their pound of flesh, but really, this is all part of the business!

P.S. BEWARE - Now it seems that there is a phishing site that has been put up on the .net domain and traffic from the old site is being redirected there. more details at:

Alien Trust: We have now gone two complete cycles (26 days) without receiving a payout. Vince claims to have a buyer for the site who will continue the program. However, the longer it goes without real news, the less likely it is to ever happen. Every day, potential payouts increase and we are pretty sure that there are no new spends entering the system.

Vince has already admitted that he did not have the money to make payouts. It is hard to believe that any smart business would take over a lame duck and agree to pay its debts. More likely, it would simply erase the debts and blame it on the previous owner/management and try to start out fresh whilst retaining the bulk of the membership. There is talk in forums that payouts will resume, in some fashion, early in the week! Here too, we will just have to wait and see!

Now on to the brighter spots:

12by12 Daily: The program WAS hit by problems and still has a notice on their site saying that high traffic volumes are causing server problems. However, we have been able to surf normally for the last 2 days and the program is still growing in leaps and bounds (now well over 10K members). It's still only just over a week old and still looks like it has the potential to do great things to restore some confidence in an arena where confidence is sorely needed.

Although we warn against EVER risking money that you cannot afford to lose, the timing is definitely right to take advantage of the next stage in 12by12's development. Like ALL autosurfs that have gone before it, this too will EVENTUALLY fail but all the signs currently point to this one suraviving and thriving for some time to come....

Money-MakesMoney-Surf: They also had problems of hacked accounts and sites and when they changed scripts for security reasons, they ran into a packet of other problems. These seem, for the most part, to be sorted and there are numerous reports of members getting their payments as due. Once again, this is a new and promising program that is not (yet) tainted!

It seems that the M3-Surf site owners, in a move that is becoming quite popular, want to set the counter back to zero. They say that they will refund spends prior to the server/script change from admin fees.
Below is a quote from the admin posted today in their forum:

Wrapping up, M3-Surf is here to stay. We are moving forward with our original intent, to create a real business with real income that can last. We are not treating this as some game where you roll the dice and cross your fingers.

Would YOU climb aboard THIS sinking ship?!

We received a note of desperation from an exasperated Pay4Surf admin a few hours ago that we found to be indicative of what is happening and much of what is wrong with the autosurf industry.

We read the update over completely several times before we came to any conclusions. Here is how the message opened:

The membership count and upgrade level have both declined rather than increased. I can't describe how disappointed I am with this. For the past 2 or 3 weeks we have been averaging 7 upgrades a day and the majority of them are for only $5. This shows a serious lack of interest or faith in ChoiceSurf.

If the purpose of this message was to rally the troops, this was a poor way to start off, by telling us that it is half dead already.....

The message continues:

Have you ever heard of an Autosurf that paid out more than what came in from upgrades? Well that is the case for ChoiceSurf. I have paid out $74,000 with only $59,500 coming in. I managed to do this by investing the money and using the earnings to pay the difference.

Well, we can't speak for our readers and members, but this is EXACTLY what we thought a LEGITIMATE, NON-PONZI surfing program is SUPPOSED to do. Obviously any program that ALWAYS needs more funds coming in from new spends than it pays out is DOOMED to failure.

The math tells us that a program that offers 120% over 15 days would eventually need to outsource $20K for every $100K in spends. Or are we the crazy ones?

Now, wait for the sucker punch:

I'm going to hold all pending payouts and give this until Monday. I wish I could give it more time but I simply cannot afford to. If things don't improve drastically over the weekend I will be forced to shut ChoiceSurf down. Those are words I never wanted to have to say.(Ed. NOR SHOULD HE HAVE!!!)

Let us translate:

"I (the admin), don't really think things will improve! I don't believe in my membership so I am going to stop paying you. In the meantime, IF YOU can produce a miracle in 4 days, the program will be saved and you will get your money."

It's really quite incredible that an intelligent businessman would send this kind of message unless he had a deathwish. Let us get this straight: You are going to hold OUR money hostage and you want us not only to pony up more in the meantime BUT ALSO tell our friends and contacts that they should put their money into a lame duck!?

And now the Coup de Grace:

I have worked very hard to build ChoiceSurf up and try to make it one of the best paid to surf sites out there. My efforts just aren't paying off and most of our members are showing no interest at all.

If you want to keep ChoiceSurf alive you can do your part by promoting it heavily and actively participating yourself. You'll have to show me you want ChoiceSurf around for a while.

Translation: "I absolve myself of all blame, it was not my business model or program at fault, I simply attracted a lousy membership base ;( I am now going to sit and wait for a miracle and if it doesn't happen within 4 days, I'll pack it in and keep your money!"

There is one last comment from the middle of the message that we left until last because it shows an interesting mindset and throws light on yet another incestuous aspect of this industry (house of cards):

I'm almost convinced that this autosurf business has seen its day. I lost $5000 to 13dp and now it looks like 24dp has stopped paying out too. This is just the tip of the iceberg lately, as you all know.

So, most, if not all, of the outside funds to pay members were coming from other AutoSurfs! Just like dominoes, when they start to fail, they take others with them. Neither this admin or any other, actually told members that this was their strategy to keep their program afloat! If this is the way that MOST surfing programs generate their funds then Clay is probably right and we should run for the hills.

Our final note is simply this! We hope for ChoiceSurf and its members' sakes, (WE are one, currently owed $750 and had just respent two hours before receiving this message), that the miracle happens.
We all know that it won't after a message like this......

The ultimate truth is that the industry is still vibrant! There will be winners and losers as always. The phenomenal launch of 12by12 Daily recently stands as testament to this. There will still be some BIG programs failing in the near future and they will be replaced by yet others. If you play the game correctly (we were still a NET winner in ChoiceSurf), you can win too! • FortuneSurf is DEFINITELY gone. We didn't lose a lot but were sorry to see it go. Unfortunately, many of the smaller pay4surfs are closing up shop. It is just too hard for them to compete with the juggernauts which are nevertheless, just as likely to fail!

Money-MakesMoney-Surf is our latest addition to our Recommended Pay4Surf Page. It's new (we're member #472), officially still in pre-launch it seems!. Of course, as always, there are no guarantees. Just 24 hours after we said that 13DP was solid and growing, they announced that they were shutting down the program. At least the justification they gave sounded plausible and they did not try to blame the situation on falling gold prices. Neveretheless, it DID highlight the fact that 13DP like so many others IS DEPENDENT ON INCOMING SPENDS TO PAY ITS MEMBERS! Take with a grain of salt any claims to the contrary! Like so many others that have gone before, 13DP claims that there will be refunds. Send us an IM when you see the pigs fly by


FortuneSurf
This is a much smaller program and will affect fewer surfers. There were signs of trouble last month when there were no payouts and all earnings were rolled over. Still, this had been a stable program for some months now and we are sorry, if not surprised to see it go!


SurfTenDaily
We do not wish to be alarmist and SurfTenDaily still appears to be operating normally. However, we have had a glitch in our account and support emails have gone unanswered. A previously PERFECT payout record has now been spoiled by an expired upgrade 4 days overdue. DO the math and make your own conclusions.....


NowDollar

If you are looking for an extra program to spread your risk, you could do much worse than S4DC! Go in with at least $100 and you can withdraw DAILY, provided that you remember to vote on the ratings sites as requested. We have gradually increased our spends here and are currently at the $300 mark. We withdraw everytime $100+ accumulates.


Choice Surf
We have followed Clay through thick and thin! He made an announcement today that he was temporarily suspending the higher paying accounts and dropping ALL members back to 20% over 15 days. In light of all the happenings above, this is probably a GOOD move and bodes well for the survival of his program. He IS a fighter and you could do much worse than shifting some of your resources into ChoiceSurf. As you can see, the higher paying programs are not faring any better than the lower ones..

Our Conclusion:
At this time, I would not be concentrating significant amounts of capital in ANY single program. We have been at this game longer than most, so we feel well qualified to give some solid advice.

In this case, do as we say.. NOT as we have done

You see, we have ALWAYS known what we SHOULD do, but have, unfortunately, not always followed our own advice. Hence we lost thousands in 12DailyPro and then a few more in PhoenixSurf..

You'd better do the math.....
Many of the current spate of pay4surf programs are messing with your mind at best and downright misleading you at worst!

It's so easy to let one's greed do the thinking and it sounds SO feasible that we just jump in head first without REALLY thinking things through. Let's give you an example:

One very well promoted pay4surf program offers 24% Daily for 6 days. Well cursory math tells you that you will make 144% at the end. This would amount to 44%/6 = 7.33% daily. Remember that 100% was your money to start with...

The above would actually only hold true IF you were paid out the day that your surfing spend expired. This is almost NEVER the case. In the example above, the small print tells you that your expired spend will be paid out within 7 business days. When you factor in the week-ends, this will amount to 9-11 REAL days (the only ones YOU care about)! For sake of argument, we will split the difference and say that the average is 10 days. Now, if we calculate your REAL profit, we find 44%/16 = 2.66% Not nearly as good as you thought, huh? YOUR money is tied up inactive for 10 days.....

So, what you believed to be the best paying pay4surf may rank entirely differently when you do the calculation of your ACTUAL profit once you have been FNALLY paid out.

So here are our Top Picks based on this new information:

1. Phoenix Surf: Pays 15% for 8days. Guarantees payout within 5 business days. However, for a varying fee, you can get paid out within 48 hours (NOT 2 BUSINESS DAYS). Often, the payout is made the SAME business day of expiry, which means you have the opportunity to re-invest some or all of your profit. If you compound 'to the max', you may be able to 'turn' your money up to 4 times in a month. After fasttrack fees are deducted, you can still make up to 60% per month.
   
   Another plus to PhoenixSurf is the fact that it is opearted by NME Global, which has other successful ventures. This makes the likelihood of premature failure MUCH less. Also, a large membership base further ensures longevity.
   
   Phoenix Surf is currently taking some flak from its members, due to its insistence on them purchasing a Virtual Money debit card, one that is being used by other surfing programs and which would be compatible with them. PS, however, is refusing to honor or transfer to and from these compatible cards whilst other programs are. This inconvenience notwithstanding, this move will free members from reliance on e-gold and other payment processors. For high rollers, having multiple VM accounts will allow them to bypass most of the limits imposed upon a single card. Even so, you still have another 6 weeks or so before Phoenix Surf will INSIST on you using their card.

2. SurfTendaily: Yes, this IS a brand new program. We are including it here for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the program admin comes recommended by a trusted source. Secondly, they are offering a variety of payment processors (e-gold, AlertPay & e-Bullion). Thirdly,SurfTenDaily, offers AUTOMATIC payouts within 2 days of expiry of ad units. Finally, STD is an autosurf program. We currently maintain 2 manual and 2 autosurf sites in our portfolio. Manual Surfs offer better advertising and promotion but the autosurfs require less attention each day.

3. AlienTrust: AT is another program that is making the switch away from e-currency exchangers and processors to the Virtual Money debit card. They are currently further along in the process than Phoenix Surf and the process for ourselves has been an easy one. We have been with Alien Trust for a couple of months now and have very few complaints. They are living up to their reputation as a solid, competent program. Returns of 13% for 10 days with a WEEKLY payout (Requested on Fridays, paid out within 5 working days) make them only average in returns, but we firmly believe that the programs offering REALLY high returns will not be around for long.
   
   This is the second site in our pay4surf potfolio that only offers manual surfing. Also, you must fill in a daily survey to qualify for your earnings. These were both features that were added to lend legitamacy to the program and fend off potential attacks by the powers that be.

4. FortuneSurf: Our other autosurf site, FS is the lowest paying but perhaps the most stable and reliable program on our list and is definitely underrated. It offers e-Gold, AlertPay and e-Bullion but pays AUTOMATICALLY at the end of each month if you have a cash balance of at least $20. We have just received our 4th such monthly payment and are very happy with the operation so far.

Since this is our first Pay4Surf blog update we will start by outlining our involvement in the autosurf industry. In 2003, when the earn for surfing craze was still in its infancy, we operated our own getpaid site for a few months before we decided that, from an admin point of view, it was too much work for too little return. Since that time, the surfing industry has had its ups and downs. Milestones were the rise and fall of Cashits, Studio Traffic and, most recently, the spectacular Super Nova of 12DailyPro and StormPay.

So, where are we today? Well, we have learned some valuable lessons.....

• Don't put all your eggs in one pay4surf basket (we currently use 4).
  
• Stay away from programs offering exorbitant returns (they can't be sustained).
  
• Try to use multiple payment processors.
  
• Withdraw profits as soon as possible (at least recoup your initial spend!).
  

As of April 24th, all four of our programs are paying, with the possible exception of SurfRapture where we have a payment that is almost 2 weeks overdue. The program admin, in his last message to membership claimed that this was due to a programming problem that he was, as yet, unable to solve.

Alien Surf: They are moving forward with their move to Virtual Money debit cards for earnings withdrawal. This should be fully implemented by next week.
